On Surgery Day, we will provide abortion service to our Two-day patients first, then our One-Day patients.
A Two-Day does their Prep(arations) one day, and then the abortion on next next Surgery Day. Prep takes 30 minutes and includes collecting fees, gestational-dating sonography, Rh blood typing by finger sticking, birth control counseling, collecting medical history, and can be done without your Support Person on Prep Day. Then on Surgery Day the appointment will be about 2-3 hours for you and your Support Person.
A One-Day does everything in one day but they must arrive early on Surgery Day (7:00-7:30am), gets their Prep done, and then waits while the Two-Day patients come back at 8:30a, 9:30a, 10:30a, and so on. The times vary depending upon the time of year. Typically our One-Day patients get their abortions around 12:00-1:30pm. It will be a longer day, but it is a single day, more appropriate for those who live a long distance away. We have Wi-Fi available if you have a lap-top computer, and play DVD movies on the TV to help pass the time.
Any Two-Day scheduling gaps will be filled with One-day patients on a First-Come-First-Served basis. This preference for Two-Dayers is to reduce delays caused by Disorganized people (50-75%) who come un-prepared (late, wrong 24-hour form, no ID, more weeks pregnant than they thought, didn't bring their money, less weeks than they thought, for example not pregnant or miscarried, chewing gum, brought children to the waiting room, support person can't stay, can't read, or forgot their reading glasses, language barriers) that delay everybody else. We are not trying to be mean.
On Surgery Day, if you are more than 15 minutes late, you will be Re-scheduled.

Fees include sonography, valium minimal sedation, laboratory tests, and one month's cycle of birth control when samples are available. If it is determined by ultrasound that you are not pregnant, or are too far gestationally for our clinic, we will only charge you for the sonography. If however you change your mind later to not have an abortion we will deduct fees for the services done: sonography, labwork/sterile tray, and if applicable, the statutory counseling for minors. Fees from our previous sonogram within 30 days can be applied towards an abortion later. When minors come for a Judicial Waiver, sonography fees are collected first, and then if less than 15 weeks, the fees for statutory counseling.
For our surgical abortions we offer Local Anesthesia or with valium Minimal Sedation. Local anesthesia lidocaine numbs the cervix, you will feel intense uterine cramping for about 5-7 minutes, period-like cramping after that, and you can drive yourself home. With the valium Minimal Sedation we give you an oral 5mg valium (diazepine) to help take the edge off the cramping you will have. You will be awake. Your Support person MUST accompany (stay here) and drive you home. Aid For Women belongs to the National Abortion Federation which sets standards for quality care. If you do not have your abortion with us, be sure to have it at a clinic which is a NAF member. Here is a link to find a NAF abortion provider near you. nearby NAF clinics.
Our staff understands that an abortion is a difficult decision, and your desire for privacy. Private rooms are used for medical preparations, counseling, the procedure. Our surgery recovery is done in a 3 patient room. We can provide these services at less cost than other clinics. Our prices include sonography (ultrasound pictures) to determine pregnancy dating counted by weeks from Last Menstrual Period (LMP) using the Queenan sonography scale, the valium, and either a prescription for preventative antibiotics or the antibiotics themselves. Extra costs would be if you have the Rh-negative blood-type (15% have A-, B-, O-, or AB- ), in which case you must pay for and receive a Rhogam injection prior to the abortion.
The Follow-Up visit is extra but minimal cost (around $30) and consists of a pelvic exam and urine pregnancy test (uCG) or it can be done with your own physician.
Minimal sedation is by oral valium. It helps with the anxiety of surgery, you will feel drunk, but you will remain awake. You will need to bring someone with you if you take our valium. If you do not take our valium, then you may drive yourself home. At this time, Conscious Sedation has been discontinued. Please vote Democratic.
